About this event: Conquer Cancer Fundraiser

So on Friday and repeated on Monday I appeared on Daytime a local talk show in Kitchener Ontario Canada, and talked about not only the event on the 30th at Artbar (ccnetsolutions.com for more info) but also my bike for cancer.

I would just like to say... way I've worked on live TV before but never been on it, and that was fun. At least now I know I can go to them anytime I want to talk about a local event :D and I hope to have my part of the show online in a few days.

Water Conservation Begins at Home
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

We on average use up to 260 liters (57 gallons) of water on average every day. A family of four uses an average of 1160 liters (255 gallons) each day. Compare this with the tank for an oil-burning furnace, which holds about 909 liters (close to 200 gallons), and multiply this demand by the population in your city or community. The demand is enormous.

On top of that, add the water used outside our homes in manufacturing products and in producing food for us to eat. And don't forget the implications of product manufacturing for water quality.

How does production relate to water quality? For example, manufacturing plants and energy-generating facilities produce the emissions responsible for acid rain -- killing lakes and wildlife. And your week-end newspaper doesn't only represent trees, energy and water -- it also represents effluent discharged into waterways from pulp and paper mills. Each of us, when we buy a product, bears part of the responsibility for its environmental costs.

What more can I do?

Write to individual manufacturers and tell them

1.you want phosphate-free cleaning products;

2.urge manufacturers to produce alternative products for home use that reduce and preferably eliminate environmental hazards. Write to manufacturers' associations with the same concerns.

Urge your federal government's Environmental Choice Program to create guidelines for a water-saving device category.

Tell your local government that water conservation is critical. Tell them to carry out aggressive public awareness campaigns and do their part, after all we elect them to keep things in order and what is more important then the water we drink?

Equality
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

By the title you would think I was about to rant about human rights but im not. No the equality I speak of is equality of water, how we use our water and how we waste it when others all over the world are left to drink mud in hopes of quenching their thirst . Water Waste is a major issue and one I feel is not looked at in the light it should be.

Global warming also has its role to play in the fate of water. The oceans of the world naturally are always moving, the warm water and the cold water switching place as talked about in Al Gore’s movie “The 11th Hour”. This natural cycle is at risk as ocean temperatures change. If the ocean was to reach one stable temperature removing the current mix of cold and warm water, it would place every single creature in the water at risk of death.

More directly we also waste water everyday with 15+ minute showers, leaving the tap on when brushing our teeth, and using more water on our lawns then most 3rd world countries even have. Now I have had plenty tell me them taking a 15min shower isn’t going to waste that much water. I argue that if you take the 5-15+ liters you wasted and times it by the thousands of people who showering every day, you might just cry.

This is why Speakup a organization im starting along with my site www.ccnetsolutions.com is going to spending the rest of 2009 try to spread awareness on water waste and how global warming plays a part in it, along with how we can use media to make a difference.
